The Modern Exodus: Perception or Reality?
by Hadriel ini'm completely new at this however just in my joining this forum and of course interacting with others i can't help but notice what appears to be a significant exodus from the organization.. for those of you that have long been in this game have you seen this before?
i'm really curious and we should refrain from the sensational, but is what we're seeing different than in years past?.
it sure seems like so so many are waking and leaving.

I think I the past the organization wanted us to all be isolated even from other xjws and with the internet we are not. That takes away the shame and influence they can exert. -

2nd amendment right ... where should it end?
by Simon inone thing i like to do to test a theory is to take things to extremes or to their logical conclusion to see if the premises still hold.
very often, a claim that seems to make sense at a superficial level falls apart when you start to stretch it a little.. so let's play a game.. suppose the 2nd amendment is valid, that some "well regulated militia" really is necessary to hold the government to account.. obviously when this was drafted the government had access to the weapons of it's day which would be muskets!
so muskets all round.

My perception is that it is very much an all or nothing issue here in the US, which is why a resolution is unlikely.
Would an assault rifle ban really harm gun owners? Probably not for the average person. Who decides what is acceptable? Who decides what is right for me or for my community? My state has decided what they deem acceptable, does another state trump that decision?

I don't think I am being a jerk or having a knee jerk reaction. I think there is room for some sort of middle ground between no guns for anyone and all guns for everyone.
Unfortunately for both sides of the argument it always goes to an all or nothing stance.

I agree with you freemindfade. I am a "plain Jane" gun owner with no agenda. If you don't like guns don't own them. I own guns and I like them. I would never use it on another living thing unless my life is threatened.
Where I live guns are very prevalent and there are indoor shooting ranges so we can practice all winter too. Target shooting is hobby and there are plenty of gun clubs that are social in nature.

Making friends in the "truth"
by Jordandemm inwhat is it about making friends in the organisation am i the only one who had found it tough?
don't get me wrong there was some good people but unfortunately there was also a lot of egotism, back stabbing, jealousy and gossiping.
i could never really fit in any group, everytime i thought i had found a group it was as if i would be sidelined or ditched.

Rebel8 - I remember a situation almost exactly as you describe in upstate NY in the late 80's early 90's. Those women made that girls life a living hell. And it was elders wives who were behind most of it...... I wonder if we are talking about the same girl. -

I am so sorry you had to go through this. I wouldn't set myself up to be hurt by them.
The family members I have that shun me will be welcome back by me when they want to act like a normal human being.
Your family's treatment of you has been their choice, do not take responsibility for their bad actions.

Glad you are doing better - the hardest part is trying to keep quiet while you're healing. Take it easy big guy, there will be plenty of time for riding again :-) -

Isn't it amazing when you realize you don't have to pretend anymore? I love being able to say "why not" when someone asks me to try something new. Instead of worrying what someone might say, or tell on me. It's fun to try new hobbies, dinner parties, community celebrations etc. The majority of people not associated with Jehovah's witnesses have been very supportive and kind in my experience.
